Olly Metherell’s slide shows this winter are in support of Cancer and Muscular Dystrophy research and the Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group.

Thanks to members of The Alpine Club (Hathersage), The Etchacan Club (Aberdeen) and The SMC (Eastern District) who donated £141 to these causes. The next slide shows are to members of The Alpine Club (London, Charlotte Road, evening of the 13th May) and The London Mountaineering Club (15th May 2008).

What is Super7 Climbing?

Super7 Climbing is an attempt to complete a first ascent on every one of the seven continents. So far, four new routes up to Scottish VII and ED2 have been climbed in Asia, Australasia, North America and Europe. It is led by Oliver ‘Olly’ Metherell and his climbing partners are James Edwards, Gareth Hughes, James Mehigan, Kev Neal, and Michel van der Spek.

Expeditions to attempt new routes in Antarctica, South America and Africa are being planned for 2008 and 2009.

"Alaska's Ruth Gorge is home to many of the most futuristic mixed lines in the world. It's also home to terrible weather and some of the most nightmarish steep snow around. James Mehigan and Olly Metherell paid a visit to find their bad dreams come true..."

"The day is clear and warm with a few wisps of cloud in the East. Below me a Lammergeir floats upwards. With a wingspan of fifteen feet it looks like a brown paraglider. I thought how I wanted to be like it".
